General: 

Vanessa is an art historian specialised in Northern Renaissance art. Since 2010, Vanessa has been the coordinator of The Flemish research centre for the arts in the Burgundian Netherlands. The mission of the research centre is to initiate, facilitate, stimulate and disseminate research related to Flemish art of the 15th-16th centuries. At the centre, Vanessa co-develops and coordinates academic programs, lectures series, conferences and the expansion of the library in the fields of 15th-16th century art history. She curated the exhibition The art of law. Three centuries of justice depicted at the Groeningemuseum (27 October 2016 - 5 February 2017). She was author/editor of the accompanying catalogue (Lannoo Publishers, 2016).

Prior to this, she was research assistant and assistant instructor at the University of Texas at Austin and at the university's study-abroad program in Italy and Coordinator and Curatorial Assistant at the Texas Fine Arts Association, The Jones Center for Contemporary Art (currently AMOA-Art House ) in Austin, TX. She has taught several Art History courses and has given various gallery talks at various museums, such as The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art (Austin, TX), Galleria degli Uffizi (Florence, Italy), Musée du Louvre (Paris, France) and the Groeningemuseum (Bruges, Belgium). She was the instructor for "Flemish Primitives" at the Kunsthistorisch Instituut of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp. She was a guest lecturer at the Louvre for the Paris Research Center of the University of Florida. She was translator, editor and instructor of academic English at the Linguapolis Institute for Language and Communications, University of Antwerp (Belgium) and taught English at the Inlingua International Language Center in Bologna (Italy). She is specialized in translations (D/E) of art history related topics. She is a member of the editorial board of eZine of CODART and regular contributor to publications of Musea Brugge (among others the Museum Bulletin), exhibition catalogs and the on line museum on the Flemish primitives http://vlaamseprimitieven.vlaamsekunstcollectie.be.

She earned a BA (cum laude) and MA from The University of Texas at Austin, with a thesis titled Judged, Beheaded, Burned: Dieric Bouts' The Justice of Emperor Otto III within the context of fifteenth-century punitive practices.
