Till-Holger Borchert and Hubert De Witte appointed as Co-Directors of Musea Brugge

Hubert De Witte (*1955 in Sinaai), the former Adjunct-Director alongside Manfred Sellink, is the new Business Director of Musea Brugge. He is an archeologist by training and began his career in Bruges in 1977 with the establishment of an archaeological position. One of the highlights (in 1979) was the discovery of the tomb and skeleton of Maria van Bourgondië. Until recently he was responsible for the Bruggemuseum, the museum of the history of Bruges at multiple locations. In addition to his charge as Director, Hubert De Witte will also remain responsible for the historical collections of the city.

Till-Holger Borchert (*1967 in Hamburg), as Artistic Director, is responsible for both the artistic programme as well as the content of the museums. The Fine Arts collection remains under his purview of responsibility. In 2002 he began his service at Musea Brugge after his curatorship during ‘Bruges 2002-Cultural Capital of Europe'. Since 2003, he has been the Conservator of the Groeningemuseum. He also established the Flemish Research Centre for the Arts in the Burgundian Netherlands. As a renowned researcher in the field of early-Netherlandish painting, Borchert was the curator for a few highly regarded exhibitions in Bruges, including: ‘Jan van Eyck, the Flemish Primitives and the South' (2002), ‘Memling and the Portrait' (2005), ‘Fake/Not Fake' (2005) and ‘Van Eyck to Dürer' (2010). Recently he was the curator of the monographic Memling exhibition in Rome.

With the combination of their extensive knowledge of the Bruges' museums and their history as well as their broad experience within the national and international cultural sector, they are exceptionally qualified to lead Musea Brugge for the coming decade in highly inspired manner.
