Musea Brugge acquires panel by Master of the Legend of Saint Ursula

Musea Brugge has acquired an important panel from the 15th Century Bruges Master of the Legend of Saint Ursula. The acquisition is financed entirely by the museal collection fund. The painting is in an excellent condition.

On the panel, Saint Veronica is presenting a sudarium with the face of the Christ. The painting was presented in Bruges at the Memling exhibition in 1994.

The acquisition highlights the quality of the museal work and the ambition of the Musea Bruges on a national as well as on an international level.

The Master of the Legend of Saint Ursula was a highly productive, yet regrettably anonymous master who was active in Bruges at the end of the 15th Century. His style includes references to Hans Memling. The acquired painting refers to Memling's depictions of the face of Christ.
