Elisabeth Dhanens is Deceased

Art Historian Dr. Elisabeth Dhanens passed away on 11 March 2014 at the age of ninety-eight. Dhanens was a doctor in the history of Art. From 1946 until 1952, she was associated with the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage in Brussels. She was the inspector of art patrimony with the provincial government of East Flanders from 1952 until 1976. Dhanens was an honourary member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts. She published many academic works, amongst which was a monograph dedicated to Hugo van der Goes (1998). She gained the greatest reputation with her study of the work of the Van Eyck brothers, which culminated in the elaborate monograph Hubert and Jan van Eyck from 1980.
