The Summer Course for the Study of the Arts in Flanders brings to Flanders, annually, a select group of 18 national and international, highly qualified young researchers. They are presented with an intensive 11-day program of lectures, discussions, and visits related to the specific course theme within Flemish art. This theme varies annually and focuses each year on a different art-historical period.
The first edition of the summer course titled ‘The age of van Eyck in context' took place from June 21 through July 1 2015. Its content was coordinated by the Groeninge Museum and the Flemish Research Centre for the arts in the Burgundian Netherlands.
The second edition is devoted to Baroque art in the Southern Netherlands, with a focus on the figure of Peter Paul Rubens. The age of Rubens in context is coordinated by the Rubenianum and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. This edition will take place at the end of June 2016. More details soon.
The Summer course for the study of the arts in Flanders is a joint initiative of the Flemish Art Collection, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, the Groeninge Museum Bruges, the University of Ghent, Illuminare - Centre for the Study of Medieval Art (KU Leuven), the Rubenianum, the Flemish Research Centre for the Arts in the Burgundian Netherlands and the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK/IRPA) (contributing partner).
