VKC images on ARTstor

Since 24 May, Lukas-Art in Flanders is collaborating with ARTstor to share worldwide more than 4400 images from more than 30 important Flemish collections. ARTstor is a digital library for non-profit research.

The collections from the three partner museums of the Flemish Art Collection (VKC)-the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA), the Groeninge Museum in Bruges and the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK)-are strongly represented within the Lukas Collection with their many masterpieces. As a result, artists such as Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling, Jheronimus Bosch, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and James Ensor are present. The Lukas Collection contains, in addition to many exceptional detail photos, the newest photos from the Ghent Altarpiece by Jan and Hubert Van Eyck, which is being restored in the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent.

ARTstor contains more than 1,5 million digital images concerning art, architecture and the sciences. To this end, ARTstor works together with top international museums, photographers, libraries, researchers, documentation centres and artists. By these means, ARTstor reaches teachers, scientists, conservators, librarians and students from more than 1.400 universities, colleges, museums, libraries and schools worldwide in more than 46 countries. The ARTstor Digital Library can be consulted via a subscription by non-profit organisations.

The worldwide disclosure and making the digital collection of artworks from the Flemish museums accessible is an important goal of the Lukas-Art in Flanders. The Flemish Art Collection shares this vision and was thus happily ready to collaborate. The collaboration with the American educational image bank ARTstor is a major step forwards for international exposure.
